Bake A Healthy Ham

Ham is the perfect addition to a Sunday dinner. Unfortunately, if not prepared correctly, a ham can be a bit unhealthy. It doesn't have to be this way though. There are a few simple steps you can follow to make your ham as healthy as possible.

Instructions

1. If your ham came with a sauce packet, throw it away. These sauces are loaded with sugar and calories. Plus, they cover the flavor of the ham. This is one of the easiest ways to make your ham healthier.

2. Use the chef's knife to score the ham. Drag the knife along the ham several times in one direction, about 1 inch apart. Then go in the opposite direction and repeat the process. This will create diamonds on the skin of the ham that will let excess fat drip away.

3. Remove the top rack in your oven. Once you place the ham and meat rack in the roasting pan, you will need extra space to fit the ham in the oven.

4. Place the ham and meat rack in the roasting pan. The purpose of using the meat rack is to it allow the excess fat to drip away from the ham. If you don't follow this step, the ham will sit in its own fat, which would prevent you from getting rid of as much fat as possible.

5. Bake the ham according to the package directions.
