Home Remedies For Breathing Problems

Breathing problems can occur at any time, at any place, to almost anyone. While causing definite unease, breathing problems might often come with chest pain, coughing or other difficulties. Depending on the reason and severity behind the breathing problems--cold, asthma, pneumonia--there are many methods of treatment and most commonly, a variety of home remedies.

Breathing Trouble

In case of an emergency, after calling 911, loosen any tight clothing that the person who is having trouble breathing might have on to make him feel comfortable. Do not make the person drink or eat anything. Make the person lie down but do not put a pillow under the head. Keep your calm, and behave in a responsible manner. Over anxiety will worsen the situation. There are a couple of home remedies that could be applied during an attack. Add 1/2 cup of coconut oil to 1 tsp. of camphor and start rubbing on the chest. You could also boil 1 cup of sesame oil with 3 tbsp. of nutmeg powder, then cool the mixture and massage the chest with it.

On a regular basis, a person with breathing problems could take some remedies orally to prevent or reduce breathing problems from occurring. Boil 1 cup of water with some fennel seeds such that it gets reduced to 1/2 cup. Take 1 tbsp. full of this water after straining twice daily for a few days. You could also take a small of a mixture of honey and garlic oil thrice every day.

Chest Blockage

As breathing problems often occur due to chest congestion, it is very important to keep the chest free of mucus. Take a cooled mixture of boiled carom seeds and turmeric in water and have it with 1 tsp. full of honey. Ground mustard seeds mixed into a paste with honey also helps. You could also boil a mix of mustard powder and rice flour to a paste like consistency, and use it on a cotton cloth to use it as hot pack on the neck and chest area, while it is still warm.

Pneumonia

Pneumonia is also known to lead to breathing problems. Tulsi oil massaged on the chest along with a concoction of tulsi leaf juice and black pepper taken four times a day is known to create enough body heat and sweat to cure the patient of a cold.

General Measures

Including honey and onions in the regular diet can go a long way in helping keep away breathing problems. Try to keep your house clean and dust- and mold-free. Avoid smoking and try not to breathe in traffic exhausts. Use a filter whenever you deem necessary.
