Foods To Avoid With Fibroid Tumors

Increased estrogen levels help increase the growth of fibroid tumors. A low-estrogen diet should be followed to decrease the size of fibroid tumors and relieve symptoms. Symptoms of fibroid tumors include bloating, abnormal bleeding and cramps.

Foods to Avoid

Avoid estrogen-increasing foods such as cheese and milk, as well as grains (barley, oats, brown rice and wheat germ) and beans (black-eyed peas, mung bean sprouts, Navy beans, red beans and split peas).

Estrogen-Increasing Foods

Fruits to avoid: apples, cherries, pears, plums, tomatoes and prunes. Vegetables to avoid: celery, alfalfa sprouts, beets, cok choy, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cucumbers, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, seaweed and squash.

Safe Estrogen Foods

Foods rich in bioflavonoids, a natural and low-potency estrogen, can be eaten. They include soybeans, soy milk, tofu, black beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, lima beans and lentils.

Warning

Consuming meat products can worsen abdominal pain, bleeding and increase other fibroid symptoms. Meats such as beef, pork and lamb should be avoided as their consumption can trigger muscle contraction and constriction of blood vessels.

Coffee

Coffee and decaffeinated coffee are strong in phytoestrogen, a natural estrogen, and should be avoided.
