Treat Adhd With Magnetic Therapy

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a developmental condition with such symptoms as impulsive behavior, inattentiveness and hyperactivity. Generally, the disorder is diagnosed during childhood years, and it can prove to be lifelong. Potential causes for the condition are altered prefrontal cortex activity, hereditary factors and exposure to environmental toxins. ADHD is often treated with one of several stimulants, but magnet therapy can be beneficial.

How It Works

The principle behind the therapy is that you have an invisible energy force constantly flowing through your body. Blockages in the flow cause disease, illnesses and mental imbalances. Magnets are used to alter this energy force or electromagnetic field and restore the natural balance.

In "Complementary and Alternative Medicine Secrets," Wendy Kohatsu says magnet therapy is a form of energy medicine that has proved successful for treating chronic pain, anxiety, depression, ear complaints, speech difficulties and ADHD.

The precise way magnets affect the body is not known, but some say they can improve respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, and balance your mood. The therapy improves oxygen levels in the blood stream, encourages natural healing processes and enhances circulatory processes--with more blood and oxygen reaching the brain, improved concentration levels and mental clarity can be better achieved.

Magnetic therapy's effect on the biomagnetic energy field promotes the release of endorphins, hormones, antibodies and neurotransmitters that have proved successful in treating the symptoms associated with ADHD. In addition, magnetic therapy does not cause the typical side effects of the stimulants used to treat ADHD. Stimulant drugs cause sleep disturbances, a diminished appetite, and edginess or nervousness.

Magnetic Bracelets for ADHD Treatment

In "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Indigo Children," Wendy H. Chapman, director of the Metagifted Education Resource Organization, and her co-author, Carolyn Flynn, assert that magnet therapy offers positive results for people with ADHD. Chapman and Flynn say wearing a magnetic bracelet helps alter the polarity in the brain and helps to keep the ADHD sufferer grounded.

The authors caution, however, that wearing a bracelet 24 hours a day might cause the ADHD sufferer to adapt to the polarity changes and become resistant to the magnetic therapy. A single bracelet should be offered to the ADHD sufferer to wear for no more than four to eight hours a day to prevent magnetic therapy resistance but still get the health benefits.
