Protein testing strips are used commonly in the medical field to detect minute imbalances in the body that may indicate disease or deficiencies. These tests are an invaluable way to detect disease early, if used regularly and read properly.
Instructions
1. Collect a urine sample in the morning, when protein markers are the strongest. Drink a generous amount of water prior to the test. Collect a urine sample in a clean, glass container.
2. Quickly dip a test stick into the sample. Do not leave it in the sample too long, as the urine will dissolve the reagent on the strip. Slide the strip against the edge of the container to remove the excess urine. Keep the strip horizontal to prevent the reagents from running and contaminating the results.
3. When the strip has changed color, compare it to the color chart that came with the strips and record the results.
4. Most tests will come with information on expected results. Compare your results with this information. Note any results that are outside of the norm, and discuss with your doctor.
5. If results appear abnormal, repeat the test with a fresh strip to confirm that the first test was done properly.
