Position The Head For A Neti Pot

Nasal irrigation with a neti pot provides gentle relief for allergies, congestion and sinus infections. Neti pot use comes to the Western world from Ayurveda, which the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine describes as an ancient "whole medical system." By using a solution of saline and water in the neti pot, you cleanse the nasal cavity and passages of excess mucus, dust and bacteria. Ayurvedic medicine claims that neti pot cleansing helps to maintain the balance of earth and water energies in the body.

Instructions

1. Stand in front of a sink.

2. Lean forward. Position your head over the sink basin.

3. Tilt your head to the left. In the correct position, your right nostril is above your left nostril.

4. Place the neti pot into your right nostril. Your nostril and the neti pot spout should create a seal -- no water should be able to escape.

5. Tilt the neti pot. If your head is in the correct position, the water will run out your left nostril. If the water doesn't drip through, adjust your head until you find the right position. Repeat the procedure for your other nostril.
