Become A Chiropractor In The Uk

Legislation such as the Chiropractic Act of 1994 requires anyone practicing chiropractics in the United Kingdom to hold a 4-year degree, have proper insurance and abide by a government-regulated code of conduct. Find out what education options are available to you and register with the appropriate government regulatory agencies to become a chiropractor in the United Kingdom.


Instructions


1. Choose which school to attend for chiropractic education. You will need a full 4-year degree from an accredited school to practice chiropractics in the United Kingdom. The two schools that offer chiropractic education at national and international standards are The Anglo European College of Chiropractic in Bournemouth and The Welsh Institute of Chiropractic at the University of Glamorgan (see Resources below).


2. Register with the General Chiropractic Council. After earning your degree in Chiropractics you are required by the Chiropractors' 1994 Act to register with the United Kingdom government regulator, the General Chiropractic Council. To register with the General Chiropractic Council, you will be required to fill out an application and submit references to your character and good standing (see Resources below).


3. Obtain professional indemnity insurance. All chiropractors practicing in the United Kingdom are required to hold professional indemnity insurance. This insurance can be arranged through an official organization such as the British Chiropractic Association (see Resources below).








4. Abide by the General Chiropractic Council Code of Practice and Standards of Proficiency. These standards advise on issues of how best to accommodate patient needs and define the parameters of acceptable and unacceptable conduct. The General Chiropractic Council Code of Practice and Standards of Proficiency can be found on the General Chiropractic Council website (see Resources below).


5. Complete a minimum of 30 hours Continued Professional Development each year. Your 30 hours of Continued Professional Development can be lectures, coursework, case conferences and more. You will be required to submit evidence of your Continued Professional Development to the General Chiropractic Council every year (see Resources below).


6. Renew your registration with the General Chiropractic Council annually.
