Eat More Iron For Iron Deficiency Anemia







Iron deficiency anemia is a common form of anemia. It is caused by a diet that does not have enough iron in it, poor absorption of iron by the body, and/or loss of blood, often due to heavy menstrual bleeding. Iron deficiency anemia can also caused by lead poisoning in children, ulcers, stomach cancer or celiac disease. Most cases of iron deficiency anemia can be fixed through diet. Here are the steps to eating more iron for iron deficiency anemia.

1. Add iron rich vegetables to your diet. Dark leafy vegetables are full of iron. When preparing these foods, you should cook them as little as possible. Overcooking your vegetables will leach the iron from your vegetables. Swap out your lettuce based salads for raw spinach salads.


2. Replace your packaged snacks with iron rich dried fruits and nuts. Eat raisins, figs, prunes and dates. Try to purchase dried fruit that is not coated with candy or that has added candy and coconut flakes.








3. Eat more red meat, as it is an excellent source or iron. Beef and liver are very high in Iron.


4. Eat breakfast cereals that are iron fortified.


5. Cook your meals in cast iron pots and pans. Every time you cook with iron pans, the iron is transferred into your foods.


6. Eat foods that are high in vitamin C, because vitamin C in the diet helps you to absorb iron. Consume vitamin C rich foods along with your iron rich foods.
