Treat A Yeast Infection With Antibiotics

A yeast infection is an irritation of the vagina and it happens when the regular yeast becomes unbalanced in the vagina and an overgrowth occurs. Yeast infections are very common and unfortunately, many women have to deal with this type of infection. Although a yeast infection is treatable, it is normally very unpleasant and annoying. Yeast infections are treated with a variety of products, but a lot of females choose to treat their yeast infection with an oral antibiotic. However, there are some things that you need to do in order to properly treat a yeast infection with antibiotics.

Instructions

1. Identify your symptoms and make a list of them. Your doctor needs to know your symptoms before he can treat you with antibiotics. The most popular symptoms of a yeast infection include a vaginal itch, soreness and redness in the vaginal area, a burning sensation, a thick, white discharge, swelling of the vagina and pain while having sexual intercourse.

2. Call your doctor and make an appointment. If you have any of the symptoms listed in the above step, it is important to see your gynecologist (or another appropriate healthcare professional) as soon as possible so you can begin treating the yeast infection with antibiotics.

3. Go to your scheduled doctor’s appointment. Describe your symptoms to your doctor. Your doctor determines whether or not you have a yeast infection and discusses treatment options with you. He may or may not need to examine you before treating your yeast infection.

4. Inform your doctor that you want to take antibiotics for the infection. There are several treatment options for yeast infections, such as anti-fungal ointments, creams and suppositories. However, your doctor can give you a prescription for an antibiotic called Diflucan, which can safely and quickly clear up your yeast infection.

5. Obtain a prescription for the medicine. Your doctor writes out the prescription and tells you how often you need to take the medication. Depending on the severity of your yeast infection, you may only need to take a single dosage or your doctor may suggest that you take the medication for several days.

6. Take the medication and be sure to follow the directions. It is important to complete all of the medication and take it exactly as your doctor prescribed it. You may choose to take the pills with food because this can help reduce the chance of experiencing certain side effects such as nausea, headaches and diarrhea.
