Perimenopause Symptoms On Menstrual Cycle

Perimenopause Symptoms on Menstrual Cycle

Perimenopause is what a woman will experience before menopause itself. This is basically the time leading up to actual menopause. The amount of time that perimenopause lasts can vary from a few months to a few years, depending on the woman. During this time, a woman's menstrual cycle can become inconsistent, and she can experience things related to her cycle that she never encountered before.

Irregular Periods

One of the first perimenopause symptoms is commonly irregularities in the cycle. Some women who have been regular with their periods since they began menstruating will find there is no longer a regular pattern to expect.

Change in the Cycle

Some women will find that their periods are much shorter, while others will see theirs last a lot longer. Those who usually bled a great degree may show a slowdown in their flow. Many who never bled that much will find that that has changed, too.

Breakthrough Bleeding

Some women may experience bleeding between periods and/or spotting. Along with the change in periods, there are usually other symptoms, such as night sweats, insomnia, hot flashes and irritability.

Perimenopause to Menopause

Perimenopause will continue through until menopause. Women are not considered to be in menopause until they have not had a period for one year. It is very common for women to miss up to six periods and to believe that they are past perimenopause, only to begin menstruating again.

When the Changes Begin

It is common for perimenopausal women to start experiencing these changes in their cycle sometime in their 40s, and often even earlier than that.
