Esophageal cancer
is fairly rare but is a very serious condition. The earlier you seek treatment, the better your prognosis will be. However, the biggest problem is that symptoms tend not to show up until the disease has reached the more advanced stages. If you notice any of the signs or symptoms of the disease, you need to see your doctor immediately.
Trouble Swallowing
A common symptom of advanced esophageal cancer is having trouble with swallowing. It might feel as though you have something stuck in your throat, making it difficult to swallow saliva and food. You might also experience pain when swallowing.
Scratchy Voice
Some people with esophageal cancer experience problems with their voices. For instance, your throat might feel sore or your voice might be scratchy and hoarse. While this could be a sign of other conditions, losing your voice or suffering from hoarseness for any prolonged period of time should be checked out by your doctor.
Pain in the Throat
Your throat can hurt when you have esophageal cancer. This pain can occur in much the same way as it would if you just had a regular sore throat, but it may also be located in your back, right between your shoulder blades.
Vomiting
In some cases, vomiting can occur in those with esophageal cancer, as can expelling blood when you cough. Coughing up blood is always a sign that you should see your doctor, so take this warning sign seriously.
Incessant Cough
A persistent cough that is either dry or results in sputum or blood might be a sign of esophageal cancer. Of course, it could be another, less serious condition as well. That's why it's important to take all of your symptoms into consideration and to be checked out by your doctor if you suspect something is amiss.
