Effects Of The Lotus Blossom Scent

The lotus scent may elicit transcendental feelings.

Nelumbo nucifera, more commonly known as lotus blossom, is a plant that has been held sacred for thousands of years and is believed to originally come from Oceania, Persia and/or Asia. People around the world now use its essential oils for a multitude of purposes, including scent therapy. Often called "sacred lotus", its proponents claim it endows many attributes upon the receiver in addition to its pleasing aroma.

Healing

The ancient Egyptians believed the lotus was a flower that possessed restorative qualities, as it was represented by Nefertem, the patron of healing, who himself was often depicted sitting upon a great blue lotus.

Hypnosis and Transcendence

According to Nicole Perez, founder of the School of Aromatherapy in London, just sitting quietly and gently taking in the powerful scent of the lotus flower can induce a nearly hypnotic state that can transcend the mind of the person experiencing it. At the end of the "scent journey," the person will feel more relaxed and peaceful.

Aphrodisiac

The Egyptians also believed that the blue lotus had the power to seduce with its unique scent. Holistic website Energy Healing Info reveals that lotus was often placed around parties and social gatherings for this purpose; women would also be given many lotus flowers by potential suitors.

Chakras

Lotus also is used by those who work with the chakras, the seven spiritual whorls of energy that define and affect seven corresponding places on the human body. According to Nature's Gift Aromatherapy, three varieties--Blue Lotus Absolute, Pink Lotus Absolute and White Lotus Absolute--seem to be particularly successful in providing access to the different chakras.
