Treat Motion Sickness Symptoms With Natural Remedies

Motion sickness (or kinetosis) comes in many forms--air sickness, sea sickness, car sickness and more--but all have the same causes and all can ruin a trip. While serious sufferers often have to turn to medication to relieve motion sickness symptoms, there are several measures and natural remedies that have been shown to be effective in providing relief for mild cases. These will all provide relief from the most common motion sickness symptoms of nausea, headaches and dizziness.

Instructions

1. Eat ginger or peppermint. Both will lessen or eliminate minor motion sickness symptoms. Ginger and peppermint supplements, teas and candies have all demonstrated some effectiveness in providing relief. They can even be taken before travel as a preventative measure.

2. Buy a motion sickness band. They apply pressure to what is known as the Nei-Kuan accupressure point. Mimic the effects of a motion sickness band if you don't have one by applying pressure to the Nei-Kuan point with your finger. To locate the Nei-Kuan point, face the palm of either hand upward. Lay the middle three fingers of the other hand over your wrist, with the outside of your ring finger on the crease between your wrist and palm. Right below where the outer edge of your pointer finger is, in the middle of your arm (between the two central tendons), is the Nei-Kuan point.

3. Hold your head steady and lean it back against your seat. Gaze toward the horizon at the onset of motion sickness symptoms. If the horizon isn't visible, a distant, solitary object will work as well.

4. Help prevent motion sickness by avoiding large, fatty, spicy, or greasy meals within a few hours prior to travel. Drink plenty of water and eat something light, such as crackers or a small salad.
