Aventurine is a stone that's a variety of crystal quartz, one of the most common minerals found on planet Earth. There are a large number of varieties of crystal quartz, so it's important that you know what it is you're looking for when you try to identify aventurine because it has some very specific properties that stone collectors should recognize.

Instructions

1. Clean off the stone and make sure that all dirt and other materials have been removed. Dry it so that the water doesn't get mistaken for any features of the stone.

2. Look for the identifiable features of aventurine. The color of the stone includes green, brown, peach, blue and a creamy green. Aventurine is also sparkly and shiny, due to inclusions of mica or hematite. Aventurine looks similar to jade, but it comes in more colors and it has a unique sheen that jade lacks.

3. Find out where the stone you have came from. Aventurine is found in Chile, Spain, Russia, Brazil, Austria and Tanzania. If your stone looks like aventurine and it comes from one of these areas, chances are very good that you have actual aventurine.
