Treat Floor Burns

Carpet can cause skin burns.

Floor burns are also called friction burns. They are caused when skin is rubbed hard against carpet or any hard flooring surface. Typically, they are a combination of a scrape and a heat burn. Floor burns are not normally serious. They usually cause minimal skin loss and bleeding. They can, however, be more severe resulting in the removal of several layers of skin. With proper home treatment, a floor burn will heal up in no time.

Instructions

1. Wash your hands with liquid antibacterial soap and water. Hold a clean cloth against the floor burn and apply pressure for 15 minutes to stop the bleeding, if applicable.

2. Clean the wound to remove dirt and debris. Place a squirt of liquid antibacterial soap in your hand. Add a few drops of water and rub your hands together to make a thick lather. Carefully rub the lather over the entire floor burn for a few minutes. Then, rinse it thoroughly with cool water. Pat the wound dry with a clean towel.

3. Apply an antibiotic ointment to the floor burn to kill germs and bacteria and promote healing. Read and follow the directions on the container in order to use it properly. Usually a thin layer of ointment does the trick.

4. Cover the floor burn with a self-adhesive bandage. This will help keep the wound clean. It will also hold the antibiotic ointment against the wound so it doesn't get wiped away.

5. Remove the bandage and wash the floor burn at least once a day. Reapply antibiotic ointment and re-bandage the wound for a couple days until it shows signs of healing.
