Draw Splinters With Salve

Draw Splinters with Salve

Splinters, according to the emedicinehealth website, are "foreign bodies that are partially or fully embedded in the skin." They may be from most any material, but they are typically from wood. Splinters can cause redness and soreness, especially if they aren't treated promptly. Not only that, splinters are germy. If they aren't treated and removed, they can become infected. Your body may even develop an allergic response to a splinter. Drawing salve can help extract them.

Instructions

1. Wash the affected skin area with antibacterial soap and water. Pat the area dry with a clean towel.

2. Apply a small dab of drawing salve directly onto the splinter and the area directly around it. The salve will soften your skin and help bring the splinter to the surface.

3. Cover the salve with a bandage, according to "Remove a Splinter" (see Reference 1). Keep the area dry and free from dirt and other contaminants.

4. Remove the bandage the next day. You may find the splinter attached to the bandage. Or, the splinter may have come to the surface far enough so you can grab it with a pair of tweezers. If not, repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 and give it another day.
