Complications After Gastric Bypass Surgery

Gastric bypass surgery has rapidly become the most frequently performed weight loss procedure in the U.S. The rise of morbid obesity in the last two decades has led to an increased need for the surgery. Gastric bypass has numerous benefits since it eliminates most major weight-induced conditions. However, gastric bypass is an invasive procedure that causes many complications.

Gastric Bypass Surgery

Complications that arise from gastric bypass surgery are the result of the type of procedure that is performed. Gastric Bypass surgery is annvasive procedure that involves creating a new stomach pouch, restricting the stomach and bypassing the top end of the small intestine.

Due to the involved nature of the surgery, numerous complications can arise.

Nutrition Deficiencies

The top end of the small intestine absorbs the nutrients found in the foods we eat. Therefore, gastric bypass patients suffer many nutritional deficiencies due to the stomach being rerouted. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies include iron deficiency anemia, vitamin B-12 and vitamin D deficiency. The nutritional deficiencies lead to hair loss, dry skin and anemia. In order to combat these complications, gastric bypass patients are asked to take supplements and eat properly.

General Complications

In addition to nutritional deficiencies, there are other less severe complications that are a result of gastric bypass surgery. These complications include low blood pressure, intolerance to foods, hernias, gallstones, dehydration, fatigue, body aches and mood fluctuations. These complications are typically common shortly after surgery, during the body's adjustment period. They tend to improve over time.

Serious Complications

Some of the more serious complications that result from gastric bypass include obstructed bowels, blood-born infections, leakage between the staples and kidney infections. Patients may also suffer stomach hemorrhaging as a result of the stomach being separated during the surgical procedure.

The risk of blood clotting in the legs is more prevalent after gastric bypass surgery. Extremely obese people are at a greater risk of developing blood clots in their legs. Blood clots are extremely dangerous because they can cause pulmonary embolism if they travel to the lungs. Pulmonary embolisms damage lung tissue and can ultimately lead to death. The risk of clotting is greater among the obese people smokers. Leg wrapping and daily movements are recommended ways to prevent blood clots in the legs.

Dumping syndrome is another serious complication after gastric bypass surgery. Dumping is induced when food passes rapidly through the small intestine. Symptoms include vomiting, sweating, diarrhea, dizziness and sweating.

Death

Like all major surgical procedures, gastric bypass does increase the risk of death. Gastric bypass surgery has a .08 percent mortality rate. There are numerous factors that contribute to the risk of death: level of obesity, age, chronic illnesses and overall health. Furthermore, the type of gastric procedure also impacts mortality rates. More invasive surgical procedures place patients at greater risk for developing illnesses.

Warning

It is important to consult your health care professional for a complete overview for all of the complications that are caused by gastric bypass surgery.

A gold facial kit can help reduce the signs of aging.

If spending the day at an expensive spa is not an option for you, why not try some spa treatments in the comfort of your own home? With the availability of high-end beauty products in stores and online, it has never been easier to add a little pampering to your life. One of the most sought-after beauty treatments is known as the "gold facial." Based on Ayurveda, which is the ancient Hindu philosophy of healing and longevity, the gold facial utilizes 24-karat gold dust and foil to erase the signs of aging.

Instructions

1. Cleanse the skin thoroughly to open pores and remove dead skin. The kit should come with a cleanser made of marigold extract. Use your fingers to rub it into the skin for a few minutes. Rinse with warm water, and pat dry.

2. Massage the face with the cream provided in the kit. It will contain gold foil, saffron, and sandalwood powder. Leave it on your skin for approximately 10 minutes, then gently remove it with a wet washcloth.

3. Apply the gold facial mask next, which is composed of gold foil, aloe vera gel, and turmeric powder. A special instrument will be included for application to help the gold penetrate the skin. Leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Pat dry.

4. Cool the skin with a cold compress for 15 minutes. Apply lavender cream, included in most kits, to soothe.

Prevent Prostate Enlargement

Enlarged prostates affect half of all men over the age of 50. Enlarged prostates occur when the urethra narrows and makes it more difficult for urine to pass through. Dealing with the symptoms of enlarged prostates can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. There are ways in which you can help to prevent enlarged prostates and guard against prostate cancer.

Instructions

1. Change your eating habits and begin a healthy exercise routine. If you're overweight, you're at greater risk of getting more aggressive forms of prostate cancer and dealing with an enlarged prostate. Losing weight can decrease your risk.

2. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to flush out your bladder and prevent bladder infections. Drink cranberry juice daily, which increases the acidity in your urine and reduces the chances of infection in your bladder, kidneys and prostate. Avoid drinking anything after 7 p.m. to reduce your need to urinate during the night.

3. Consider taking a daily aspirin or ibuprofen. These drugs work to prevent enlargement of the prostate. Your doctor can prescribe one of four alpha-blockers available that help to reduce prostate enlargement. They are Hytrin, Cardura, Flomax and Uroxatral.

4. Take a daily multi-vitamin to decrease the enlargement of the prostate. Eat foods that are high in fiber such as beans, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Consuming 60 to 90 grams of fiber a day can greatly reduce your chances of developing prostate problems.

Find Pressure Points On The Body

You can find pressure points along the ridge of muscle connecting your shoulder and neck.

Pressure points are nerve bundles found throughout the body. They can cause both pain and pleasure. They are easy to find yet difficult to master. Human bodies are symmetrical. If you find a pressure point on the right side, there is also one in the same spot on the left side. If there's a pressure point in your hand, there will be one in a similar location on your foot. A few major pressure points are easiest to find, but they represent just a few of the thousands of pressure points on the human body.

Instructions

1. Pinch the sides of your Achilles tendon; this can be either pleasurable or painful, depending on how hard you squeeze. Find a corresponding pressure point on the webbing of your hand in the meaty part between your thumb and pointer finger.

2. Pinch the sides of your upper arm about an inch above your elbow. Feel around; you will know when you find it. Then press the corresponding spot above your knee.

3. Find the ball of your foot, which is the part of the foot you stand on when you are on your tiptoes. Press on the spot under the ball of the foot in the arch, located closer to the inside of the foot than the outside. Now find the corresponding spot in your palm next to the meaty part under the thumb.

4. Poke around your head and neck to find other pressure points. You can find them on the temples, in the pocket just beneath your ears, and along the ridge of muscle connecting your shoulder and neck. If there's a pressure point on your right side, there's another one on your left side.

5. Grab a friend and position him on his stomach. Press about 1 inch away from the spine on each side, but do not press directly on it. Pressure points can be found along both sides of the spine.

Non Surgical Weight Loss

When obesity becomes a life threatening health issue, finding the proper treatment can be difficult. With the uprising of weight loss surgeries such as the Lap Band and Gastric Bypass procedures, many people are experiencing side effects that are less than desirable. Finding non-surgical solutions to health-threatening obesity is important for maintaining a naturally healthy body and your well-being.

Liquids

One of the most fattening drinks a person can consume is soda. One 12 oz. can of cola normally contains more than 200 calories and as much as 39 g of sugar. Eliminating soda from your diet and replacing it with carbonated, flavored spring water can help you lose weight quickly and safely.

Fats

There are essential fats and nonessential fats, and it is important to be able to distinguish between the two. Limiting your consumption of fast foods, potato chips, doughnuts and baked goods like cookies, and red meat can reduce the amount of harmful fats you introduce into your body. Eat more healthy fats such as those in foods like peanuts, olive oil, salmon and avocados.

Supplements

Herbal and vitamin supplements provide an extra boost to your metabolism without the need for chemicals and surgery. Ginger root is a powerful ally in weight loss as it acts as a diuretic, flushing unnecessary fluids from your body.

General Diet

It goes without saying that a proper, balanced diet is the key to losing weight and maintaining it. However, some people lack the willpower it takes to adhere to a strict diet. For this reason, there are programs like Nutrisystem and Jenny Craig that mail out special meals to help members eat healthy and stick to their diets.

Activity

Keeping your body active helps burn the calories you take into your body. A 30-minute, light cardiovascular workout can help you burn up to 600 calories. Achieving this goal is as simple as taking a brisk walk.

Medication

Over-the-counter weight loss medications are available, but few are good for you in the long run. It is best to consider talking to your physician about prescription weight loss medication like Relecor, which is intended for people who are at least 100 pounds overweight.

Detox Diet

Many people swear by the popular liquid diets that cause you to shed up to 10 pounds in as little as three days. Hollywood Diet is a popular, orange flavored drink of this nature.

Discipline An Autistic Child

Children with autism benefit from early intervention programs. It is critical for parents of an autistic child to have good knowledge about their child's special needs and to show active involvement in the child's disciplining and education. This is proven to be effective in fundamental areas of development like communication, behavior and social interaction.

Instructions

1. Establish a routine. For an autistic child, perfecting the day's events will bring security and order in their confused world. Set up a specific time for play, sleep, meal, bath and friends. Let the child know in advance if there is going to be any change in the routine to avoid undesirable behavior like screaming or self-inflicted injury.

2. Maintain consistency in sticking to the routine, communication and disciplining tactics for behavior. Being consistent and providing repetitions will reinforce their learning atmosphere. It teaches them to apply what they learned in one concept to a future concept.

3. Encourage positive behavior. Disciplining could be more challenging with an autistic child than one who isn't, but teaching that positive behavior follows pleasing consequences will encourage the child to repeat the good behavior to attain a reward.

4. Be specific with praise. Verbalize clearly to the child why he is being rewarded. Instead of saying "Good job" try explaining "It was nice of you to share it with your brother." Immediate and sometimes tangible rewards like stickers and tokens help younger autistic children to associate better.

5. Give clear and simple instructions to the child to complete a task. Try not to phrase long sentences. Many autistic children are visual thinkers. Include more visual stimuli along with auditory instructions like using blocks to teach numbers or flashcards of images to associate words.

Stay Healthy As A Man

As men get older they are faced with some unique challenges that are specific to men's health, for example, prostate and testicular conditions. Men also tend to develop cardiovascular diseases earlier than women and are more likely to gain weight around the abdominal areas, which is linked to other medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and stroke.

This article will give some tips and advice to help men focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and to improve the quality of their lives.

Instructions

1. Perform a testicular self-examination (TSE) on a monthly basis to prevent or early detect testicular problems. Adolescent boys should also be taught perform this exam, as testicular problems can start at an early age. For a video on perform the TSE, visit my website, Jewell Productions TV where you can also refer to my eHow article on the subject (see link in Resources below).

2. Prostate Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men. It is essential to get regular checkups with your medical doctor. The examination that is performed by a trained medical professional is called the Digital Rectal Exam (DRE). You can learn more about the DRE exam at my website (see Resources below).

3. Men tend to develop heart disease and strokes at an earlier age than women. It is especially important for men to lose weight, keep a healthy balanced diet, exercise regularly and reduce stress.

4. Keep regular visits to the doctor to have your blood pressure measurements taken. Normal average range for an adult male is around 120/70. This will help reduce the risks of strokes. If you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure you can monitor your blood pressure at home. Regularly check your blood pressure and jot down the results.

5. Begin colorectal screening at age 50. Colonoscopies are done every 10 years. Early screening will help prevent colon cancer.

6. Stop smoking. Lung Cancer accounts for nearly one third of cancer deaths in men and cigarettes are the number one cause.

7. Men tend to put on more weight as they get older, thus putting them at a higher risk for developing health conditions such as Type 2 diabetes.

8. To help maintain a healthy lifestyle it is advisable to add multi-vitamins and supplements to your diet. For example, take selenium as a prostate cancer preventative, magnesium for diabetes and omega-3 fatty acids for heart disease. Consult your medical doctor before changing or adding vitamins/supplements to your diet or prescription drugs.

9. Have a regular cholesterol checkup with a medical doctor.

Diagnose Vocal Cord Paralysis

Vocal cord paralysis, formally known as Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis, is a dysfunction of the recurrent laryngeal nerve or vagus nerve that stimulates the larynx. The normal speaking voice can usually be restored with proper evaluation and treatment.

Instructions

1. Observe the first symptoms of Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis. These patients initially present with a characteristic breathy, low-pitched voice in most cases. However, the voice also may be high-pitched because of a compensated falsetto.

2. Examine the patient for shortness of breath, especially when speaking. This is primarily because of air wasting caused by dysfunction of the glottis rather than any significant impact on pulmonary function.

3. Check the patient history for any recent chest, head or neck surgery. The most common cause of Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis is a surgical injury to the laryngeal or vagus nerve. This specifically includes procedures such as anterior spinal surgery, a carotid endartectomy, a thyroidectomy, thoracic or mediastinal surgeries.

4. Perform chest radiography as the first imaging study. Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis can also be caused by a mass in the chest such as a large cardiomegaly, mediastinal mass or Pancoast tumor that enlarges the left atrium to the point that it damages the left recurrent laryngeal nerve.

5. Conduct a Computed Tomography (CT) scan or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan if the chest radiography is negative. The entire path of the vagus and recurrent laryngeal nerves should be examined for injuries, requiring imaging from the bottom of the skull to the aortic arch for the left nerves and the clavicle for the right nerves.

Costs & Types Of Hearing Aids

Hearing aids help alleviate the necessity for sign language.

When hearing becomes damaged from aging, injuries or disorders involving the ear itself, a hearing aid is a useful device to help alleviate this. There are many different types of hearing aids which vary in cost, based on their quality and technology.

BTE Hearing Aid

A BTE, or behind-the-ear hearing aid, are pre-made rather then custom made and have a lower cost per unit then other hearing aids. These are the most powerful hearing aids for those with profound or severe loss of hearing in their ears. They are also great for children, as the ear molds can be changed more economically then the hearing aid shells. While the mold can be plugged with ear wax over time, the hearing aid is away from the ear canal and is protected. These hearing aids come with warranties and many retail for about $700 apiece, but can be found online for cheaper prices and may even be less with certain types of insurance.

ITE Hearing Aids

ITE, or in-the-ear hearing aids, are the largest custom-made hearing aids and fit right into a person's ear canal. They are for a wide range of patients from those with mild to severe hearing loss. Because of size, they are much easier to build then smaller custom hearing aids. They are also inexpensive. However, they can be damaged by ear wax or drainage from the ear and also are not cosmetically pleasing. These ITE hearing aids can be purchased at retail for about $300.

CIC Hearing Aids

CIC, or completely-in-the-canal hearing aids, tend to be the most expensive on the market, as they are the smallest custom hearing aids and can barely be seen. These hearing aids are best for adults with large ear canals and medium to mild hearing loss. Their sound quality is better then every other hearing aid on the market, as they have increased gain and reduced distortion. However, it is incredibly susceptible to drainage and ear wax damage. Also changing the battery is a hassle as the compartment is small. These CIC hearing aids retail at around $1200.

Heat stroke often happens in extremely hot and humid conditions. Our body uses sweating to balance the body temperature, however, under certain conditions, our body fails to dissipate the heat and the body temperature keeps risking. The most common victims of heat stroke are outdoor workers, infants, elderly people, and athletes. Heat stroke, if not treated early and properly, can be deadly.

Instructions

1. Call 911 for medical emergency assistance. The symptoms of heat stroke include dizziness, vomiting, nausea, fatigue, weakness, muscle cramps and headache.

2. Remove the victim's clothes while waiting for emergency medical assistance to arrive. Spray water to cool him down. Stay with the victim. Put ice packs under his armpits and groins.

3. If you are outside, take the victim to a cool and shaded area. If there is a pool nearby, bring him to a shallow part of the pool.

4. If you have access to a thermometer, monitor the victim's body temperature. Continue to provide cooling his temperature drops to 101 to 102 degrees F.

5. Give him cool liquids such as cold water. Sport drinks are ok, too. Do not give him caffeine or any other caffeinated drink. Keep a container and damp cloth near in case he vomits.

6. If the person is unconscious, check his airway for breathing and listen for his heart beat. Do CPR if he stops breathing. Have his mouth opened so air can enter his body. Roll him onto his left side. This help prevent vomiting and allow fluids to drain from his mouth.

What Are Pendulums

A pendulum consists of a stick or string that has a weight attached to its end, often called a bob. A pendulum pursues the law of falling objects in which the gravity force pulls the pendulum toward the Earth. If the pendulum is pulled to one side and released, the bob will create a swinging motion because of gravity. The force of inertia will make it continue to swing at a consistent rate.

Clocks

Since the early 16th century, pendulums have been used to measure time. Initially, their accuracy was not perfect, as they created a difference of 15 minutes each day. It was only in 1656, when Dutch scientist Christian Huygens built the first pendulum clock that increased the accuracy from 15 minutes a day to 15 seconds a day. The back-and-forth movement of the pendulum moves a gear one notch, moving the clock's hands. The increase in time accuracy resulted in the spread of pendulum clocks all over the Europe.

Building Demolitions

The application of pendulum motion can be observed in a wrecking ball that is used to demolish buildings. The wrecking ball swings in a pendulum motion with the help of a crane, and the giant ball is slammed into the building that is supposed to be taken down. When the giant ball swings in one direction, it stores energy and releases that energy upon hitting the building.

Observing Earth's Rotation

In 1848, Jean Foucault observed and revealed that when a large pendulum swings for a lengthy period of time, it looks to be changing direction throughout the day. In reality, the pendulum does not change its direction, rather it is the Earth that rotates. This observation led to the creation of Foucault pendulum that represents the rotation of the Earth. The Foucault pendulum is often several stories high, as it must swing for longer periods in order to observe the Earth's rotation.

Pendulums in Religions

Pendulum motion can also be observed in the ceremonies of various religions. Scientist and astrologer Galileo Galilei observed the properties of a pendulum while watching the church lamps swinging in a periodic motion while listening to a sermon at a cathedral in Pisa, Italy.

Dowsing & Pendulum

Dowsing has been used for its ability to locate oil, gold, water and other important minerals. The use of a pendulum in dowsing has also been popular throughout the ages. For instance, certain French physicians used a pendulum to diagnose diseases. In modern days, the pendulum has been used in an attempt to heal allergies and determine the gender unborn babies.

Lumineers Vs Porcelain Veneers

Lumineers Vs. Porcelain Veneers

If you think you're too old for braces, but not old enough for dentures, veneers may be the middle ground that you're looking for. Veneers are thin tooth-like coverings that are placed over the surface of your stained, chipped or crooked teeth. They're custom made in a shade that would best match your surrounding teeth. Lumineers are similar to veneers in that they also cover your teeth. But in the battle of Lumineers versus porcelain veneers, some key differences may encourage you to choose one over the other.

Reversability

When porcelain veneers are put on, some of your tooth enamel is removed to prime the surface for the veneer. This is an irreversible process. Once the enamel is gone, it's gone for good. Lumineers don't require the same type of grinding. According to the Lumineers website, you can have them removed later on.

How Long Will They Last?

There's no absolute right answer for this question because it's very much dependent on how you treat your teeth. If you brush and floss after meals, limit your sweets and see your dentist twice a year, you'll maintain better dental health than if you just brush in the morning. With that said, according to the Lumineers website, they can last over 20 years. Plus they come with a warranty so that if something does happen, they're replaced at no extra charge. Porcelain veneers can last 10 to 15 years, and with good care possibly longer.

Pain

Since some of the enamel on your teeth may be worn down, a local anesthetic is normally given before porcelain veneers are put on. This comes with the initial stick of pain. However because the dentist doesn't have to remove the same amount of enamel with Lumineers, a shot may not be required. Either way, pain should be minimal with either process.

Coverage

Porcelain veneers can be used to cover teeth that are chipped and discolored. They can also close small gaps in between teeth. Lumineers work best on teeth that are fairly straight and have little discoloration. Lumineers are thinner than porcelain veneers, so they can show existing discoloration more.

Cost

There's no set price schedule for either porcelain veneers or Lumineers. The cost is dependent on the amount of work you need done and the dentist used. However there are some ballpark figures. Lumineers can cost $700 to $1,100 per tooth. Porcelain veneers range from $620 to $1,100 a tooth.

Diagnose Papilledema

Papilledema is a swelling of the optic nerve where it enters the eye in response to an increase in intracranial pressure. It almost always occurs in both eyes and may develop over a period of weeks. The following steps will show diagnose papilledema.

Instructions

1. Obtain the presenting symptoms of papilledema caused directly by the elevated intracranial pressure. These primarily include headaches that become worse upon awakening or coughing. The patient also may suffer from nausea and vomiting, which can be followed by loss of consciousness and even death.

2. Observe visual symptoms. Visual acuity is usually unaffected unless the papilledema is advanced, but may include graying-out or transient flickering. Blurred vision and a constriction of the visual field also can occur. The patient also can experience double vision if the sixth cranial nerve becomes involved.

3. Conduct a general physical to eliminate other possibilities. Elevated blood pressure, neurological problems and a fever also can produce the symptoms described in Steps 1 and 2.

4. Perform a dilated fundus examination to find signs of early papilledema. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy and direct opthalmoscopy can show a slight swelling of the nerve fibers, which is considered a key finding if the swelling obscures the fine peripapillary vessels.

5. Look for signs of advanced papilledema. The nerve fiber swelling will eventually obscure the normal margins of the optic disc, causing it to become grossly elevated. The venous congestion will continue to develop and the retina may develop folds called Paton lines. The optic disk can become gray or pale in cases of chronic papilledema.

Physical Effects Of Alcohol Abuse

Besides an increased potential for addiction and dependency, alcohol abuse, which is defined as an "unhealthy and dangerous" habit of drinking alcohol, can lead to a number of physical effects on the body. Most of which can be quite dangerous to your health. As time goes by, and the alcohol abuse continues, many of these issues can worsen, to the point of irreversible effects. If you think you're currently abusing alcohol, you should get help immediately, as the most effective way to improve your health is catching the problem early.

Effect on the Heart

As a person abuses alcohol in excess, he will generally cause his blood pressure to rise. This increase in blood pressure can eventually begin to damage the heart, both in structure and function. Since there is such an increase in the rate in which blood is coursing through the veins, the heart needs to compensate, essentially working overtime, which will put a strain on the organ. This strain will damage the heart and could lead to heart failure, heart attack or a stroke.

Effect on the Liver

The most obvious physical effect of alcohol abuse involves the liver. When someone abuses alcohol the liver essentially becomes inflamed. This inflammation can manifest other physical problems, including persistent nausea and vomiting, a loss of appetite, stomach pain and cramping, jaundice-like qualities to the skin and eyes, an elevated body temperature and an altered mental state, usually appearing as confusion. As time goes by, this inflammation of the liver can develop into cirrhosis, which is essentially a scarring of the organ.

Digestive Effects

Not surprisingly, the perpetual presence of alcohol in the stomach can begin to irritate and inflame its lining. This will ultimately hinder the way in which nutrients are absorbed, creating the potential for vitamin deficiencies and malnutrition. It may also begin to lead to an ulceration in the lining of the stomach, which could cause pain, discomfort and an inability to eat certain foods.

Neurological Effects

When a person drinks, she experiences a change in the way her brain essentially functions, hindering nerve impulses and the way in which neurotransmitters relay information. Alcohol abuse places the brain in this state continuously which can damage the brain. This will affect the ways someone thinks, speaks and acts.

Effects on the Bones

As with many forms of substance abuse, excessive use of alcohol can begin to affect your bones. Mostly, this has to do with the density of your bones. With habitual abuse, your bones can begin to thin, since there will generally be a lack of nutrition due to other alcohol-related health problems. When the bones begin to thin, there is a greater chance for breaks and fractures.

Other Problems

While a number of the effects from alcohol abuse can result in health risks, there are other issues that can spring up. Alcohol can actually affect the way in which a man can perform sexually, revealing itself as impotence. Women may also begin to experience a change in menstruation. This is more a result of other complications than a true side effect of abuse, but it is still a problem.

Manage A Tanning Salon

Tanning salons can be profitable if managed correctly.

Tanning salons are in an industry that has a potential for high profits. The amount of money your business makes depends on a number of factors, including the location your business is in, the current season in question, the type of equipment you use and the hours you choose to stay open. In addition to these factors, other aspects that have an influence on the success of your business include customer service and how you manage your salon.

Instructions

1. Determine the goals you have for the salon. Consider both long- and short-term goals whether they are financial, based on a number of new customers you wish to acquire each month, or if they are goals that deal with the expansion of your business. For instance, if your long-term goal is to expand into multiple tanning locations, this will require different steps than maintaining one location for your salon.

2. Delegate tasks to each one of your employees according to their specific abilities to successfully complete their duties. As an example, one employee may be better suited to clean the tanning beds while another employee is better with customers; the customer-oriented employee is better suited to explaining tanning packages and features to potential clients. The work you assign include everyday tasks as well as tasks that help you achieve your goals in the long run. For instance, if you have a long-term goal of acquiring 50 new customers per week, assign an employee with marketing and customer service skills to help you advertise your business.

3. Train your employees instead of assuming they understand do their jobs the way you see fit. This is an effective method to ensure that you have the best available employees who are able to follow the instructions that you provide. If you prefer to use a certain cleaner for the tanning beds, show the employee your method of cleaning.

4. Deal with customers who are less than satisfied in an effective manner. An ideal method of handling angry customers is to offer them a refund, a discount or a free session in the future. This shows them that they are worth the effort of keeping them around and increases the likelihood that they will return. This is provided that you handle the ordeal that made them upset in the first place. For instance, if a customer complains that the tanning bed would not work at the ideal setting, offer a discount or a rain check to return for a free session.

5. Handle all daily duties and tasks that are required as a manager. These tasks include opening and closing the salon each day; depositing the daily receipts into the bank for your merchant account; and ordering replacement supplies -- such as tanning lotion -- before the stock runs out.

Medicare Guidelines For Lap Band Surgery

Medicare Guidelines for Lap Band Surgery

Lap band surgery, also known as adjustable gastric banding, involves placing an adjustable band around the stomach to restrict the amount of food you can eat. Medicare pays for this surgery for patients who meet certain requirements.

Eligibility Requirements

You must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 35 or above and have at least one weight-related illness like diabetes, hypertension, or sleep apnea. You also must have a documented history of weight loss attempts.

Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence

Medicare only pays for the surgery if it is done at a Medicare approved "Center of Excellence" for bariatric surgery. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery designates Centers of Excellence based on outcomes and services provided.

Psychological Evaluation

Medicare requires that patients undergo a psychological evaluation prior to the procedure. A qualified mental health professional must determine that you are mentally stable and emotionally prepared for surgery.

What Medicare Covers

If you have the original Medicare Plan A and B, Medicare covers 80% of the cost of the surgery after you meet your annual deductible. If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, the amount that is covered depends on your plan. Call the number on your insurance card to inquire.

Pre-Approval

Unlike most health insurance companies, Medicare does not require pre-approval of lap band surgery. If your surgeon determines that you meet the Medicare guidelines, he will perform the surgery and then bill Medicare. If for some reason Medicare then does not pay, you can appeal.

Contract Herpes Simplex 1

Herpes simplex 1 is a contagious virus that is easily spread from person to person. The Type 1 virus causes cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth, nose and chin. Cold sores are red, pus-filled blisters that eventually break and leave behind a crust that falls off after the blister heals. Exposure to the herpes virus does not mean you will contract the disease. The immune system plays an important role in determining which person gets outbreaks, how frequently the cold sores occur and how many sores appear. But there are behaviors or actions that greatly increase the chances of a person contracting herpes simplex 1.

Instructions

1. Touch people infected with herpes. The best way to contract herpes is to kiss someone on the mouth or face who has a cold sore. Touching the face of the infected person can also lead to getting the virus. Having any physical contact (including sex) with a person increases the risk.

2. Share personal items with infected people. There is evidence that herpes can spread by sharing intimate items like towels, washcloths, toothbrushes and razors. Using the same drinking cup, fork or spoon as an infected person may also spread the disease.

3. Wash hands infrequently. Many germs and diseases are passed on by people not washing their hands thoroughly. It seems like a simple thing to do but many people aren't aware that many bacteria and viruses remain on the hands. If your hands are infected and then you touch your eyes or your genitals, you can spread herpes to other parts of your own body. Cleanliness will help to reduce the chances of getting the herpes virus.

4. Spend time in the sun without sunblock. The rays of the sun seem to trigger herpes outbreaks. Without a sunscreen or sunblock with SPF 15 on the face, neck and lips you increase the possibility of getting cold sores

5. Have an unbalanced diet. The immune system is important in fighting diseases of all types. Not getting the nutrients needed to maintain a healthy body will lead to a weakened immune system. This makes you more susceptible to diseases like herpes. Eating a healthy diet of fruits and vegetable helps to strengthen the body's self-healing abilities. Taking vitamin C every day will fight infection. Echinacea is an herb that is known to improve the immune system.

Help Clients Adjust In Substance Abuse Programs

Clients in substance abuse programs tend to have an incredibly difficult time adjusting to the program. Shame, denial, withdrawal, and resistance add to the difficulty of adjusting to a substance abuse program as a client. It is the job of health care professionals and behavioral health staff to assist clients in overcoming their hurdles as they adjust to the process. Compassionate and patient staff can assist a client in successfully adjusting to a substance abuse program and reaching a point of recovery.

Instructions

1. Set and enforce ground rules. These ground rules should establish proper boundaries for members of the staff and the clients. Addicts have a difficult time self-regulating and commonly abuse boundaries. No unwelcome touching, no stealing, and no abuse may seem like straightforward rules for a healthy person, but they are foreign to an addict. Therefore, it is essential that the staff at the treatment center enforce these ground rules.

2. Create and enforce structure. Addicts have disorganized and chaotic lives. One of the best ways to assist a client in adjusting to a substance abuse program is to create a structure for the day. Create a set time that clients wake up, eat, and go to bed. Scheduled times for when clients engage in programmed activities such as individual counseling sessions, outings, and group therapy should be preplanned and made available to the clients in the form of a calendar. This will foster a level of safety and predictability that the client can count on.

3. Meet individually with the client early in the program. Addicts commonly feel as though they are not heard and grossly misunderstood. Show clients that is not the case in the substance abuse program by working individually with the clients and learning about who they are as unique individuals. Be genuinely interested in them as people, and they will begin to trust the staff and ease into the program.

4. Create and maintain a supportive environment. Clients need to know that they can bring concerns to staff anytime without fear of judgment or reprimand. By fostering a supportive environment among clients and staff, you will help clients establish a level of trust with the staff and adjust to the program. Trusting the staff will enable them to trust the process.

Use Essential Oil To Keep Your Home Insect Free

Use Essential Oil To Keep Your Home Insect Free

Many commercial insect repellents and insecticides contain noxious chemicals and poisonous ingredients that are harmful to humans and pets. Pure and natural essential oils are an effective alternative. The volatile essential oils of aromatic plants are obtained by several different methods of extraction including hydro-distillation, direct steam distillation and water and steam distillation. Choose wild-crafted or certified organic, therapeutic-grade essential oils.

Instructions

1. Ants avoid orange oil.

Repel an ant infestation with orange essential oil. Ants will not cross a doorway or window sill that has been sprayed with orange essential oil. Add 1/2 oz. of orange essential oil to 3 oz. of white vinegar. Place in a spray bottle and mist ant pathways and points of entry.

2. Cockroaches spread disease.

Rid you home of cockroaches with the essence of aromatic plants. Mix 30 drops of orange oil with 1 oz. of olive oil. Use to wipe down door jams and window sills. Sprinkle a few drops in the garbage pail. Use a mixture of 30 drops of essential oil (orange, lemon or grapefruit) combined with 1 cup white vinegar, 1 cup water and 1/3 cup organic liquid dish-washing soap. Use the mixture to wipe off appliances, counter tops, cabinets and any place cockroaches hide.

3. Avoid toxic chemicals in your living space. If moths infest your woolens or linens, avoid dangerous commercial mothballs containing naphthalene. Natural essential oils such as red clover, lavender, lemongrass, cedar or rosemary repel moths and keep clothing and linens fresh-smelling without the unpleasant smell of mothballs. Place a few drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and tuck inside closets, cabinets, sleeping bags and luggage.

4. Many spider bites are toxic to humans.

Send spiders scurrying with the aromatic scent of lavender. Spiders will not take up residence in an area where the scent is present. Add 10 to 12 drops to a home humidifier to refresh indoor air, aid with respiratory problems and rid the area of spiders.

5. Chase mites with eucalyptus essential oil. Add to either the wash or rinse cycle of the laundry. Add 20 drops of oil to an average size load of laundry. When adding to the rinse cycle, add 1 cup of white vinegar. You will never use chemical-laden dryer sheets again. Your laundry will be fluffy, soft and wrinkle-free. Vinegar and eucalyptus banish mold and musty odors, leaving fabrics fresh and clean-smelling.

Spirochete Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease affects up to 80 percent of the human population. The disease includes mild forms, known as gingivitis, to more severe forms that when untreated can lead to loss of bone and teeth. The human mouth is full of bacteria that in the absence of healthy oral hygiene practices can take hold and cause damage.

What is a Spirochete?

Spirochetes are gram-negative bacteria that are long, thin and spiral-shaped. These bacteria can be either free-living or parasitic, and some of them are pathogenic (meaning cause disease) in humans. There is one species of spirochete that is part of the natural environment of the human mouth called Treponema denticola. Although T. denticola is typically not harmful, this organism is the topic of recent research, as it may play a role in the progression of periodontal disease.

Known Pathogenic Spirochetes

There are several species of spirochete bacteria that are known to cause disease in humans. Borrelia borgdorferi is the bacterium that causes Lyme disease. Treponema pallidum causes venereal syphilis. Recent advances in the study of these pathogens reveal that T. denticola is genetically similar to its pathogenic relatives.

What is Periodontal Disease?

Periodontal disease is an infection in the tissues surrounding the teeth. Gingivitis is the first stage and is marked by swollen gums. Gingivitis is caused by a build-up of plaque, which is a soft, sticky film of bacteria. If the plaque is not removed it hardens into tarter, which can only be removed by a professional cleaning. Since gingivitis only affects the gums, the effects can be reversed preventing it from worsening into periodontitis which is severe periodontal disease.

Periodontitis occurs when the bacterial infection migrates below the gum line to the connective tissue where the teeth attach to the bone. These pockets of infection can break down the connective tissue, damage the bone and result in teeth becoming loose.

Detection

In studying patients with advanced periodontal disease, researchers have found that the level of T.denticola in the deep tissue pockets is elevated. This is evidence that T. denticola does have a function in the progression of the disease.

Function

The increased presence of T. denticola initiates several cell changing factors. T. denticola suppresses the growth of fibroblasts, which are cells that are important in constructing and repairing tissue. T. denticola also enhance the destruction of collagen. Collagen provides the support to tissues and gives cells their structure. When collagen is broken down or destroyed, tissues degrade. T. denticola also suppresses the response of lymphocytes, which are white blood cells that fight off infection. It is clear from early research that the spirochete T. denticola has the ability to enhance the progression of periodontal disease.

Detoxify Your Lungs

Detoxifying your lungs is of great benefit for those who work in locations where they breathe in a lot of polluted air and for those who have been long-term heavy smokers. So, if you're suffering from a chronic smoker's cough or have difficulty breathing deeply and experience shortness of breath, then it could be time to detoxify your lungs. Obviously, the best thing you can do prior to detoxifying your lungs would be to totally stop smoking. Once you stop smoking, the lungs would regain their ability to heal and cleanse themselves. After that, you can detoxify your lungs with a secret combination of food supplements and special vitamins that flush out toxins. Although it appears relatively easy, smokers find it very hard to kick their habit.

Instructions

1. Add black pepper, ginger, garlic and horseradish to your diet so that the unhealthy mucus in your lungs can be broken and flushed out.

2. Add a few drops of rosemary oil to water in a humidifier. Spend 10 to 15 minutes per day breathing over a humidifier with a towel draped on top of your head, until your nose, head and lungs clear up.

3. Increase your consumption of water to over 8 glasses a day as the healthy mucus that your lungs need to clean themselves is mostly made up of water. Increased hydration not only improves the function of all of the organs, but it also helps the body to flush out accumulated toxins.

4. Exercise your lungs. Physical exercise like jogging, swimming or brisk walking will help your lungs to expand and regain that lost elasticity.

5. Spend a few minutes exercising your lungs. Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose chambers until your lungs are expanded fully and can hold no more. Now try holding your breath for about 3 to 4 seconds, then exhale forcefully through your mouth. Repeat 20 to 25 times each evening.

Treat Receding Gums With Oil Pulling

Treat Receding Gums with Oil Pulling

Receding gums is a common problem in adults over forty, but may occur in people of all ages. It causes exposure of the roots of the teeth, and loss of gum tissue. Many people undergo extreme receding gum treatments, such as surgery, to remedy the problem. However, there is an Indian folk (Ayurveda) remedy, known as oil pulling, that has helped many people avoid gum surgery, and improved receding gums - even helped them regrow lost tissue.

Oil pulling is known not only for it's proven benefit on receding gums, but also for whitening teeth, freshening breath, reversing gum loss and stopping bleeding gums. The antibacterial properties of the oil completely revitalize oral health. There are numerous claims that oil pulling can also cleanse the body of harmful toxins, although there is little scientific evidence to back this up. The truth is, oil pulling has helped thousands of people cure and reverse receding gums and many other health problems. Try this simple, natural, and completely harmless receding gums treatment, and find out for yourself. What have you got to lose?

Instructions

1. Take one tablespoon of sesame oil and place it in your mouth. The oil pulling to treat receding gums (or any other disorder) should be performed first thing in the morning, before breakfast, and on an empty stomach.

2. Swish the oil around in your mouth slowly, as though you were rinsing with mouth wash. Suck the oil and "pull" it through the teeth, over and again. This will thoroughly mix the oil with saliva. Continue pulling the oil through the teeth for 10-20 minutes.

3. Spit the oil out when it has become thin and white. If the oil is yellow and thick, you have not performed the oil pulling long enough. Continue until it has changed color and texture, for the greatest benefit to your receding gums.

4. Rinse the mouth thoroughly with water to ensure that all the bacteria is removed form the teeth, tongue, and receding gums. Rub the gums with clean fingers to ensure you haven't missed anything, and to stimulate circulation.

5. Repeat the oil pulling process up to three times per day, for 10-20 minutes each time, to speed the healing of receding gums. Always perform the procedure prior to meals, and on an empty stomach.

6. Clean the sink basin thoroughly with an anti-bacterial soap, if you spit into the sink. You may wish to spit into the toilet, to avoid this. Be aware that the oil is filled with toxins and bacteria once it leaves your mouth, and take precautions.

Acupuncture For Hip Pain

A four-year study, completed in 2004 at the University of Maryland Medical Center proved the effectiveness of acupuncture in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Director of Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Lixing Lao, Ph.D., L.Ac., states that acupuncture can act as a preventative measure in keeping the body healthy.

Background

Acupuncture practitioners believe that hip pain is caused by the weakened or interrupted flow of energy within the body. It focuses on treating several acupoints to correct the energy flow and relieve pain.

Acupuncture in Hip Pain

Acupuncture uses thin tiny needles and inserts it into particular points on the skin by hand and sometimes stimulated by gentle electrical currents to promote pain relief.

How it Works

This dry needle technique effectively releases deeper muscle groups with ease, relaxing muscle spasms and simultaneously calming the pain signals coming from the pinched nerve that cause hip pain.

Efficacy

According to Dr. Brian Berman, research has shown that neurotransmitters are released in the brain, which among other effects include inflammation and pain reduction.

Benefits

The National Institutes of Health states, that based upon the research performed that acupuncture may be an acceptable alternative in treatment of pain in areas such as lower back pain, fibromyalgia, asthma, carpal tunnel, menstrual cramps, headache and osteoarthritis.

Medical Massage Training

No consensus exists on the definition of medical massage.

The definition of medical massage varies depending on the source. The lack of consensus on medical massage means that education called medical massage training varies greatly.

Medical Massage

Medical massage might range from massage for a specific medical condition to massage billed to insurance companies, to a specific way of using massage techniques.

One Definition

The Natural Healers ebsite states that medical massage is an orientation that distinguishes the massage from general relaxation massage and that medical massage is anatomically precise and patient specific. The site also lists medical massage training programs.

Standards

In "An Open Letter to the Massage Profession From the American Medical Massage Association," the association acknowledges the controversy around medical massage and states "The AMMA does not seek to define medical massage for the massage community but rather seeks to establish definitions and guidelines for our membership."

More Training

Medical massage training generally involves more in-depth anatomy and physiology training and more training in clinical massage practice.

Expert Insight

The AMMA believes that medical massage will become defined by current and future legal definitions and by scientific and academic process.

Code Of Conduct & Business Ethics

Redefining business thics

According to Business Network, the code of conduct is defined as "a statement and description of required behaviors, responsibilities, and actions expected of employees of an organization or of members of a professional body." Business ethics are principles of morality laid down by an organization for ensuring corporate responsibility, quality assurance and customer satisfaction. In a competitive business world, the code of conduct and business ethics, together, create excellence, accountability and transparency.

Written Framework

Some organizations have verbal principles that act as a guiding framework for motivating and regulating the employees, in addition to providing a focus for achieving the business goals. Most of the multinational corporations and large non-profit organizations have a written framework, which an employee can refer to in case of doubt or confusion. A written code of conduct and business ethics acts as a rigid set of laws that must be abided by all members of the organization to perform good business practices.

Constituents

A code of conduct and business ethics for an organization should have two sections: an aspiration section and a rules section. The aspiration section highlights the mission, vision, short-term goals, long-term goals and strategies for achieving them in a stipulated time period. The rules section emphasizes the principles laid down by the organization, which the employees have to follow in day-to-day operations. The two sections help the individual employee to work with

zeal and creativity without crossing the boundaries of professionalism.

Enforcement

The organization must enforce its code of conduct and business ethics for ensuring progressive growth and retaining a positive image in the society. According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), the organization must enforce disciplinary measures, such as "counseling, oral or written reprimands, warnings, probation or suspension without pay, demotions, reductions in salary, termination of employment and restitution." These disciplinary acts for enforcing the code of conduct and business ethics apply equally to the violator, the person who does not detect violation, the person who withholds the act of violation, and the supervisor who condones violation.

Example of McDonald’s

The global fast food giant, McDonald’s, has a written Standards of Business Conduct, which outlines the company’s goals and the behavior of its employees as they work in the organization and serve the customers. McDonald’s has posted its code of conduct and business ethics on the company’s website to provide an easy access to its principles among the public. According to McDonald’s 2008 Standards of Business Conduct, the company promises ethical conduct of business activities, delivery of quality and customer satisfaction, and personal accountability of its employees who can be terminated in case of violation. Supervisors and managers oversee the operations and also prevent retaliation against an employee who reports a wrongdoing.

Stakeholders’ Responsibility

It is the responsibility of the stakeholders, including the employees, the supervisors, the Board of Directors, the consumers, the media and the government, to ensure that the code of ethics and business conduct is implemented fairly at all times. To sustain a good corporate image, the stakeholders must work in unison for attaining continuous improvement of quality of products and services.

Uses For Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil and water make a simple all-purpose antibacterial cleaner.

Tea tree oil is a clear oil from Australia with antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. It is safe to use full strength on skin, but those with sensitivities may need to dilute it. Tea tree oil has a medicinal scent much like camphor.

Household Cleaning

Make a spray cleaner for countertops with 2 cups of water combined with 2 tbsp. tea tree oil in a spray bottle. Protect dishes and clothing from bacteria and germs by adding two or three drops to the dishwasher or dishwater and inside the washing machine. Tea tree oil is effective against any regular mold accumulation in a house. Wash walls and floors with tea tree oil mixed with water.

Hair

Tea tree oil benefits hair by removing follicle blockage and any bacteria on the scalp. It also moisturizes the hair shaft and stops dandruff problems. Add 10 drops to one 8-oz. bottle of shampoo.

Skin

A few drops of tea tree oil will prevent infection and promote healing to minor cuts, scrapes and burns. Tea tree oil will stop itching from skin irritations, ease minor sunburn pain and relieve insect bites or stings. Applying it to acne will stop any current inflammation and prevent it in the future.

Warnings

Do not use tea tree oil internally. It is fine to use as a mouthwash, but do not swallow. Tea tree oil is very potent, so use just a few drops as needed. Avoid using it on a baby, dilute it for children and do not get it in the eyes.

Get A Lymphedema Compression Machine For Home Use

Someone with lymphedema retains fluids and experiences tissue swelling, usually in the legs, because of a blockage or weak lymphatic system. When typical treatments don't work, a lymphedema compression machine is required. A prescription for the compression machine for home use occurs when the patient goes home but still experiences severe lymphedema.

Talk to Your Doctor

Discuss your condition with your doctor or surgeon for a prescription. A lymphedema compression machine requires a prescription for home use. Most hospitals have these machines bedside for patients, but it does not go home with the patient upon discharge. The hospital uses the compression machine to help keep patients from retaining fluids or from forming a blood clot. The machines systematically massage the body part to keep or reduce fluid buildup.

Home Health Services

Home health services require doctor approval and patient evaluation by the home health service. Choosing the right health service while home-bound because of lymphedema also determines which lymphedema compression machine you get. Your home health-care providers arrange for your medical equipment according to your doctor's orders. If ordering a machine without insurance reimbursement, then you can research, order and use any machine, but most people get the machines offered by the home health provider and covered by insurance unless otherwise recommended by a doctor.

Health Insurance and Ordering the Machine

Submit your prescription for your lymphedema compression machine to your home health-care provider or compression machine supplier. Your insurance company determines how much you need to contribute toward the purchase of the machine, or your co-pay. When using a compression machine supplier, do research on the company to determine the reliability and reputation of the company. The sales person that visits you demonstrates the equipment and takes notes to ensure the equipment is a good fit for your needs.

Receipt and Use of the Compression Machine

Upon receipt of the lymphedema compression machine, either by delivery from your home health company or an independent supplier, training is required for the machine provided. If the home health provider or nursing service helps with daily care, then they will need to be present for the training on the use of your compression machine. Once the lymphedema compression machine is set up in your home, a doctor should continue to monitor your progress and care while using the machine.

The Symptoms Of A Soap Allergy

Allergies to soaps, including cleaning detergents, fall under the category of contact dermatitis. Direct contact with the allergen causes skin inflammation in its sufferers. Various symptoms of a soap allergy, or contact dermatitis, can be mild or severe. The allergic reaction is generally localized, affecting the area where the soap product touches the skin.

Skin Rash

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, one of the common symptoms of a soap allergy is a red, itchy, non-blistering skin rash.

Dry, Cracked Skin

Another symptom is dry, cracked skin that peels.

Swelling

Localized swelling on the area of contact is also a symptom of a soap allergy, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

Tenderness

Skin tenderness and sensitivity in the area where the soap has made contact indicates that a person is allergic to a particular brand of soap.

Skin Lesions

Severe symptoms of a soap allergy are skin lesions that blister or form pimple-like sores that ooze thick fluids.

Detect Early Symptoms Of Diabetes

Diabetes is a serious disease, but with the proper education and medical care, one can manage the situation and live a long life. Knowledge of early symptoms of diabetes can prepare you to deal with the disease. Following are some things to watch out for when determining if you are at risk or in the early stages of diabetes.

Instructions

1. Realize that excessive thirst and frequent urination are two early symptoms of diabetes that typically go hand in hand.

2. Know that any blurry vision or weight loss or gain are common but dangerous early symptoms of diabetes.

3. Analyze any skin rashes carefully. Diabetes can make any skin rashes or wounds slow to heal.

4. Decide whether drowsiness could be an early symptom of diabetes or if you are simply doing too much and not getting the proper rest.

5. Determine the severity of muscle cramps as either an early symptom of diabetes or working out too strenuously.

6. See a physician immediately if you have any early symptoms of diabetes. It is better to be seen and find that there is no problem than to let the situation worsen and therefore make it more difficult to manage.

Stop Indigestion

Indigestion includes a variety of stomach ailments that generally occur after eating a meal. If you deal with chronic indigestion, you’re likely familiar with the symptoms, which can include heartburn, acid reflux, abdominal bloating and gastritis. Several factors trigger indigestion such as eating rapidly, and anxiety. There are ways to put an end to this stomach ailment and stop future occurrences.

Instructions

1. Take a fiber supplement. Fiber regulates digestive health. If you deal with chronic indigestion, taking a daily fiber supplement can stop heartburn and stomach pains. The daily recommended fiber dosage is 30 mg. The average adult consumes about half the daily dose.

2. Keep a food journal. Certain foods are known to produce gastrointestinal ailments such as abdominal bloating, flatulence and indigestion. These include fiber-rich foods, carbohydrates and dairy products. Closely monitor your food intake, and record all meals in a notebook. Determine foods that trigger indigestion and remove these from your diet.

3. Buy a digestive enzyme supplement. If you can’t live without your favorite dishes, there is a way to enjoy these foods and keep indigestion at bay. Purchase an enzyme supplement at a health food store. These vitamins include key ingredients to help your body digest certain types of foods, and ultimately stop indigestion.

4. Reduce food portions. Painful indigestion and other stomach ailments can result from overeating. Rather than fill up on three large meals a day, make a conscious effort to eat five or six small meals in a day. Additionally, listen to your body, and don’t stuff yourself.

5. Learn control anxiety. Stress and anxiety can cause an array of digestive problems. If foods aren’t causing your indigestion, the underlying problem may be your mental state. When under stress, the body produces fewer digestive enzymes. As a result, stressful situations and heightened anxiety can cause diarrhea, constipation and indigestion.

Design A Physical Therapy Room

Designing a physical therapy room will ensure functionality of the space.

Physical therapy was introduced in the United States after the first World War in order to rehabilitate injured soldiers, according to Spine Universe. Since then, this industry has grown exponentially as the technologies to treat injuries expand. Physical therapy involves the manipulation of soft tissues that have been damaged due to injury as well as increasing mobility for patients with arthritis, fractures or nerve injury. Designing a physical therapy room will save you time when installing therapy equipment and will also help determine the aesthetic appeal of your practice.

Instructions

1. Compile a list of all the equipment that must be in your physical therapy room. The exact equipment you will need solely depends on the therapy services you offer. After you have written down the equipment necessary, discover the dimensions of each item to determine how much room each item will encompass. Take note of all other items in the room you will need, such as counters, massage tables and curtains

2. Measure the room where your physical therapy practice will be held. Write down this information and gather a notebook and a pencil.

3. Draw the shape of the room you will be designing on a piece of paper. This does not need to be an exact scale drawing but simply a rough draft. After you have drawn the rough outline of the room, begin to place boxes representing different pieces of equipment. Inside each box, write what piece of equipment it represents.

4. Return to your physical therapy room, and using the rough draft drawing, make physical marks in the floor for each item. Gather the dimensions of the equipment and other items you wrote down in the first step and use a measuring tape to create a box that is roughly the size of each item. By doing so, you'll be able to visualize if a piece of equipment is too large for the room or if you need to alter the design of the room. Review the placement of each item in the room after you have marked the floor. If every item fits move on to the next step.

5. Collect color swatches from your local paint store if you want to change the visual look of your physical therapy room. Color selection is important to help make your clients feel comfortable as well as to keep the room from being too dark or bright. After you have selected a minimum of five different color combinations, review the colors and have several friends or family members give their opinion.

6. Finalize your design by making a final drawing of where your equipment will be situated as well as a final color swatch for the walls. If you wish to add decorations, such as artwork or plants, wait until after you have placed your equipment within the room to determine what areas of the room are bare.
